Rotary International : District 9320

ALUMNI WEEK

District 9320 is introducing a new concept which may be a first for The Rotary Foundation. An ALUMNI WEEK will be held in the week starting 24 January 2011. During this week all clubs are asked to invite their Rotary Foundation Alumni (Ambassadorial Scholars, GSE Members and Foundation Volunteers) to their meeting that week, as paying guests.

Our alumni are nearly always most appreciative of the opportunity which The Rotary Foundation gave them. They are a possible source of new members, even years after their Rotary trip. They are part of the Family of Rotary and we need to keep in contact with them.

Your co-operation is sought in making this a successful event.

As Alumni Chairman in the District I will be sending to all clubs a list of their alumni and of alumni living in their area. Most of them have an e-mail address for your ease of contact.

The alumni will be told to expect an invitation from a Rotary club in their area.

There is a big ALUMNI EVENT in Cape Town next February (2011). The present President of Rotary International is Ray Klinginsmith, a very good friend of South Africa following his year as an Ambassadorial Scholar at the University of Cape Town in 1961. He is holding a series of reunions in Cape Town, as follows:-

Thursday, 3 February 2011

A reunion at the University of Cape Town for all Rotary scholars who studied at UCT, and all UCT graduates who studied at other universities as Rotary scholars.

Friday, 4 February 2011

A combined reunion of ambassadorial scholars and group study exchange team members, including

  1. all Rotary scholars who studied at any university in Southern Africa and all graduates of Southern African universities who studied at other universities as Rotary scholars, and
  2. all outbound and inbound members of GSE teams who were sponsored by Rotary districts in Southern African or hosted by districts in Southern Africa.

Saturday, 5 February 2011

A reunion for all Rotarians who have been involved in international service projects in Southern Africa and/or who are interested in becoming involved in such projects in Southern Africa (Reach Out To Africa − ROTA)

You are welcome to attend if you fit into the relevant categories

I am sure the fellowship will be memorable as so many wonderful people gather together. It will most certainly be an interesting experience. Ray is an inspiring leader. At the Council on Legislation meeting in Chicago in April, at which I represented D9320, Ray had all the South African delegates as guests at his table at the formal banquet.

The Rotary International website at www.rotary.org has a mine of information. When the page comes up there is a block at the top towards the right hand side into which you can type what you are looking for and the web page will lead you there.
